The almost Spring-like weather we’ve been blessed on and off with lately has inspired me to recommit to my sketchbook/visual journaling practice, and to create this NEW class so I can invite you to join me!

Your Creative Companion for Life: A 4-week introduction to the fun & fulfilling practice of visual journaling

“Beauty and grace are performed whether or not we will sense them. The least we can do is try to be there.” -Annie Dillard

Using simple materials like pen, paper, paint, and glue, each class in this 4-week course will provide you with tools to:

• discover and explore the beauty all around you

• quiet your mind and be present to your life

• better understand yourself

• find the extraordinary in the ordinary

• slow things down in this fast-paced life

• return to a sense of wonder

• express yourself in a safe space

• create a portable art studio, a private spiritual retreat, a companion to life

and so much more!

Whether you’re new to journaling, looking for a way to enhance or restart an existing practice, a meaningful way to document an upcoming vacation, to record the life of your garden, or even your meditation practice, I invite you to join me in April to explore this rewarding practice and celebrate the return of Spring.

When: 4 Wednesdays, April 3, 10, 17 & 24, 2013. 11am–2pm (Note: I’m experimenting with this time slot because I know a lot of people don’t necessarily have M-F 9-5 jobs and I wanted to be able to accommodate that. So, if you’re interested in the class, but the time doesn’t work for you, please email me at angela@studiotenshi.com and we’ll see what we can work out.)

Between each class I’ll send you an email to enhance each lesson, offer encouragement, and lead you deeper into your practice.

Where: my art studio in the old post office, downtown Tacoma – and, weather permitting, a field trip or 2

How much:  $95

Creativity Package: sign up for this class and my April 20th Jumpstart Your Creativity workshop, and get both for just $150 — a $35 savings.

Register by using one of the PayPal buttons below. (If you would prefer to pay by check, contact me so we can make arrangements.)

Some supplies will be provided – for the remainder, a materials list will be available about 2 weeks before our first class meets. And if you have any questions, please email me at angela@studiotenshi.com or call me at 425.296.9ART (9278).

No experience necessary.

Registration deadline is Wednesday, March 27th, and space is limited, so sign up today!

I look forward to becoming more present with you!

What people are saying about my workshops:

“Angela’s workshop was a joyful opportunity to step out of my usual routine and create art, freed from expectations of producing anything in particular — creation for creation’s sake. (How rare is that in a middle-aged person’s life?) Angela fosters a supportive and nurturing environment for a non-visual-artist such as myself to dive in and play with different media and colors. It was very freeing, very nourishing to my creativity.  A fun day, and the conversation while we were working was great as well. I highly recommend it as a play-date with someone you love.” –Nancy Hausauer, energy healer and writer

“I enjoyed your workshop very much. It allowed me to loosen up from my terrible ‘stuck place’. I had to consciously EMBRACE the freedom to express myself in a deeper way and Angela made it easy by leading us into a safe place where we could trust the other participants and ourselves; the ‘inner critic’ was sent flying. Thank you, Angela!”~Judy P Buskirk, artist, Gig Harbor
“I spent the best day of Spring with Angela in her workshop, letting go of my inner control freak. Angela’s class takes you on a journey through art where you learn by doing. With no formal art training or painting experience –I honestly think the last time I painted was in kindergarten! — I walked into the session a wee bit nervous. I wanted to throw myself into this unknown environment and see what it was like to spend a day painting, but I also worried that I would be so hopeless it would be a disaster.
What I found was a welcoming and low-key environment. What I learned was that painting is not just an act dependent on skill and practice, but an opportunity to walk/sail/dance/hike through your internal landscape. I learned that painting can be a visual diary. I learned that painting can be relaxing, cathartic, joyous, and, at the end of the day, pretty tiring. It’s surprisingly hard work!
Angela weaves in information on techniques — sometimes demonstrating how to do something, other times walking the class through an exercise, and other times simply pointing out possibilities while the class painted along. In one activity we painted with our eyes closed so we could fully focus our attention on the rhythm of our hands as we brushed the paper.
Angela integrates music throughout the entire day, and seems to use it to inspire what she says. I didn’t feel the class was scripted at all, which made it more relaxing, yet adventurous, than I expected. I really loved her approach as it seemed like a natural way to learn more about painting than if she’d said ‘and now we’ll learn X technique.’ We worked with a variety of mediums, such as acrylics and charcoal, which kept things fresh and fun. I highly recommend Angela’s class to anyone with a curiosity about painting, and look forward to my next session!” ~Jessica Steinhebel, public relations professional, Seattle
